Lovely copy of Abbey's uncommon third book. Very clean and bright. Book shows very minor wear to corners, slight dustiness to top of pages, overall straight and tight, no writing. Unclipped dust jacket has some wear and small tears to bottom front panel and light wear along gutter of jacket spine. Bright and unfaded. One of the nicer copies of this fragile jacket we have seen.

First edition of the author's first book. This copy in good condition with wear to covers. Prior ownership stamp to inside front pastedown and a handwritten price on the half-title page. While condition of this book is ordinary, it is very nicely INSCRIBED by Algren to friend and fellow New York artist, Richard Merkin on the front endpaper. Algren has added his customary drawing of a cat next to the inscription. Lacking rare dustwrapper. Inscribed copies of this title are by no means common.
