Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1944. First edition. Cloth. Very good copy of this novel made into the film of the same name starring Jean Tierney, Cornell Wilde and Vincent Price. First edition presumed with the following points noted: (1) Date of 1944 printed both on the title page and the copyright page, (2) Red cloth stamped in black, (3) No mention of it being a wartime edition. (4) No mention of later printings. Book measures approx. seven and three quarters by five and one quarter inches wide. This copy SIGNED by the author on the half-title page. Quite scarce thus. This book has a prior owner name and date of 1944 written on the front endpaper. Lacking the rare dustwrapper. Some small scuffs to cloth covers. Very Good. Item #13498
