A very good copy in burgundy cloth covers in very good dustwrapper. This, a notable ASSOCIATION COPY is from the library of Jeffers' patron and friend Albert M. Bender with his bookplate afixed to the inside front pastedown. Bender has signed the book under his bookplate and has inscribed this copy on to playwright Elmer Rice in 1938. Jeffers has not only warmly INSCRIBED this copy to Bender and dated it in 1937, but has also added a handwritten passage from page 127 of this book. A superb association copy to Bender who was a well-known patron of the California arts and artists of his day including Jeffers from the early days of his career. They became close friends and correspondents and even traveling companions. Bender is also known for playing a key role in the early careers of both Ansel Adams and Diego Rivera.
